DirectOffer started by being dedicated to helping professionals showcase themselves while making the dream of homeownership accessible to everyone. The company’s focus on diversity, equity and inclusion is driving our development of affordable agent-centric Generation C, ADA-friendly, multi-language technology that makes it easier for people to buy and sell homes. In honor of Autism Acceptance Month, we asked our founder’s daughter, Abby Lappe, who is autistic, to share her thoughts about DO AudioToursTM, our patened feature that empowers agents to bring a home to life by adding audio in any language to individual listing photos.

Making the Dream of Homeownership Accessible to Everyone

And now the Dream of Bringing the World to Everyone

My mom taught me that I can accomplish anything I want. Right now, that’s graduating in May from Union University in Jackson, Tenn. with an associate’s degree and going on to earn my bachelor’s degree. Someday, when I’m older and have a family, I dream of owning a home.

She’s also taught me that everyone has their own struggles. You can let them defeat you or you can find a way to adjust and push through.

In addition to being autistic, I have ADHD, and reading is something that I have a hard time focusing on. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve found workarounds that have helped me. Although I didn’t always want to admit it, my mom was right when she said I’d benefit from hiring a tutor who could read textbooks to me. I also have learned that playing an audiobook while reading allows me to comprehend and retain information so much better.

My mom will tell you that DO AudioToursTM was inspired by me. However, I would tell you that it is the pioneering step in making homeownership more equal for everyone.

There are lots of reasons that people struggle when it comes to reading, perhaps they are autistic like me, or they are vision-impaired or speak a different language. AudioTours is a first step in recognizing that not everyone consumes information in the same way. If I were shopping for a home, I would listen to the audio for each listing photo while reading the property listing description. Others might simply listen to the audio in their preferred language.

The great thing about technology is that it makes life easier. AudioTours is an example of the future I would like to live in – one where rather than judging people for how they are different we offer adjustments so that they can be equal and thrive regardless of their differences.
